Contracts and signatures - Pacten Guides
Contracts live on the work they govern: open an engagement’s agreement step and the contract studio is right there. Behind them sits Contracts & Docs — the file library, sharing and approvals.
1
Get the agreement in
Three ways: build the agreement document from your own sources (files, links, emails, notes — the studio drafts from what you feed it); upload an existing contract and let Pacten extract the parties, scope, clauses and commercial terms for your review; or start empty and complete the record by hand.
2
Complete the record
The contract studio holds the frozen scope, the legal clauses, the commercial terms (value, currency, payment terms) and the parties who will sign — each with a name, title and email. Before sending, it checks you have at least two parties with valid emails.
3
Send for signature
Every party receives an email with their own secure signing link, valid for 30 days. All parties are invited at the same time. Need to nudge someone? Send again — anyone who already signed is left alone, and everyone still pending gets a fresh link.
4
The signing moment
The signer sees a branded page: the key facts up top, the full agreement below, and a signature panel where they type or draw their signature and tick an explicit consent. Their name, the time and their IP address are recorded with the signature.
5
Executed, automatically
The last signature executes the contract on the spot: the engagement moves to contract executed, the commercial terms flow into billing, the agreement documents freeze against further edits, and every party is emailed the news. Export a PDF or DOCX any time — or, for ink-signed deals, upload the signed copy and mark it executed yourself.
Sign any document, not just contracts
Any file in your library can be sent for signature: place signature, initials, date, text and checkbox fields exactly where they belong on the pages, and the recipient completes them at their own link. A signing certificate records who signed, when, and from where.
The library behind it
Contracts & Docs is also your file room: upload into folders, replace a file as a new version with history kept, and control each document’s reach — internal, shared with the client, or a public link, with a per-person download switch. Generated documents can pass through your approval chain first: send one for sign-off with Request approval on a document in Recently Generated, then track it under the library's Approvals tab — Awaiting my decision lists what needs your call (approve or decline, with an optional reason), and My requests shows what you sent and its status. Configure who decides under Contracts & Docs → Settings → Approvals.
- Find a contract through its engagement — the agreement step is its home.
- Commercial figures stay guarded on exports too: the money renders only for admins and finance/legal-labelled people.
- Signing links expire after 30 days; sending again is what issues fresh ones.
