Your workspace may call participants Students or Members — same features, your sector's words.

Where: open the group → roster → click the participant → their Programme tab.

A banner at the top confirms the scope before you touch anything: "This is [Name]'s copy — edit tasks for the whole cohort in the cohort's Materials tab." Everything you do on this tab affects this one person.

Add a task for one person

Use "Add task" inside the right stage. The dialog is explicit about reach: "Only [Name] will see this. A task added here goes on this one member's programme — the rest of the cohort won't get it." The save button reads "Add for [Name] only".

Note: a task added this way starts as optional. If it must gate their progress, edit it after adding and switch on Required to continue — two steps.

Make a task required for one person

This is how you make something like a document upload mandatory for selected participants while it stays optional for others. On their Programme tab, press the pencil on the task ("Edit for this student only") and switch on "Required to continue": "Later milestones stay locked for [Name] until they submit this." Save with "Save for [Name] only". Repeat for each participant it should apply to.

The editor also tells you when this person already differs from the group — "Already different for [Name] — the rest of the cohort has this optional." — with a one-press "Match the rest of the cohort" to undo the difference.

What individual editing does not cover

Only the requirement can be changed per person. A task's title, instructions, visibility, and due date are edited at group level, for everyone.
There is no per-person removal or exemption. To excuse one participant from a task: switch Required to continue off for them (removes the gate), or mark the task complete on their behalf from the same tab.
Group edits win. If you later change that same task from the group's Materials editor, the group-wide save rewrites every participant's copy — including individual changes. Re-apply the per-person setting afterwards if it should survive.
