Letting your browser use your microphone — Pacten Guides
A softphone call happens inside your browser, which means your browser — not Pacten — controls whether your voice can be sent. Until you grant the microphone, a call can connect and the other person will hear nothing from you.
FIRST TIME
Granting it
One prompt, once.
The first time you place or answer a softphone call, your browser asks for microphone access. Choose Allow. That is the whole setup — it is remembered for next time.
Tip
Make one test call out rather than waiting for a real caller, so the prompt appears at a moment you can deal with it.
IF IT WAS BLOCKED
Turning it back on
Blocking is remembered per site, so this repeats on every call until you change it.
Pacten checks the microphone before it places the call, so you are told immediately rather than sitting on “Calling…” while nothing happens.
1
Open the site permissions
Click the microphone or padlock icon at the left of the address bar.
2
Set the microphone to Allow
This is a browser setting, not a Pacten one — nothing inside Pacten can override it.
3
Reload the page
The permission takes effect on the next load.
ALSO WORTH CHECKING
When the permission looks fine
Granted is not the same as working.
- Your headset is the browser’s selected input and output — the permission can be granted while the browser is listening to the wrong device.
- Nothing else is holding the microphone. A meeting app left running is the usual culprit.
- “Ring my phone” needs none of this. If you cannot resolve the microphone now, switch your calling mode and carry on.
Something else not working?
Nothing ringing, no audio, missing recordings — the short list.
