Pacten

Pointing Pacten at your own accounts - Pacten Guides

Pacten seeds a small starter chart the first time anything is posted, and for most businesses that is the whole story. If your accountant has brought a chart of their own, there is one more thing to do — and nothing warns you if it is skipped.

You will find it under Finance → Chart of accounts, on the mapping tab.

WHAT THE MAPPING IS
Twenty-one kinds of posting, each needing a home
Pacten knows what KIND of entry it is making; only you know where it goes in your chart.

When Pacten posts an invoice, a payment, a bill or a stock movement, it knows the ROLE of the entry — sales, receivables, inventory, and so on. Mapping is where you say which of your accounts each of those roles means. Until you do, they land in the accounts Pacten seeded.

Why this is worth checking today
Nothing breaks and nothing warns you. The entries are made, the totals add up, and they are simply in the wrong accounts — so the first sign is usually a report that does not match what the accountant expects, weeks later. If your chart has accounts you added yourself, open the mapping tab and look.
AND IF YOU HAVE NOT BROUGHT ONE
Then there is nothing to do here
The starter chart IS your chart.

A workspace using only the accounts Pacten seeded needs no mapping at all — every role already points at the account it was seeded for. The setup checklist knows the difference and will not ask you for something you do not need.

Frequently asked questions

How do I map inventory to our own chart of accounts?
Open Finance → Accounting → Chart of accounts and switch to the Where Pacten posts tab. Find the Inventory role (1300) and choose your own inventory account from the picker. Each row saves the moment you choose — there is no Save button.
We brought our own chart of accounts. Where do I tell Pacten which accounts to use?
On the Where Pacten posts tab of Chart of accounts. Every kind of posting Pacten makes — sales, receivables, inventory, cost of sales, goods received not invoiced and the rest — is one row; pick the account of yours it should post to. A row you have not mapped keeps posting to the starter account Pacten seeded.
Can bonded stock and duty-paid stock post to different inventory accounts?
Yes. Inventory is the one role that can be mapped per location — add a location override under the Inventory row. Every other role maps to a single account.
Why can't I pick a particular account for a role?
The picker only offers accounts of the same type as the role. Pointing inventory (an asset) at an income account would balance arithmetically and wreck the statements, so Pacten refuses it rather than let you choose it.
We imported our chart but cost of sales is still posting to Pacten's account. Why?
Importing accounts does not map them. Map the Cost of sales role (5000) on the Where Pacten posts tab. Entries posted before you mapped it are not moved.
