Turning a document into a contract - Pacten Guides

There are two ways to make a contract out of something you wrote in Doc Hub. Both copy the text into a new contract in Draft; the original document stays in Doc Hub.

Recommended
From Contracts, with a client
This is the way that fills in the Client column.
1
Start a new contract
Go to Contracts → New contract. Under “How does it start?” choose From Doc Hub.
2
Pick the document
Choose it in the Pick a document list.
3
Attach it to a client
Under Attach to, search your clients and pick one. Standalone is fine if it has no client.
4
Promote it
Click Promote to contract. Pacten creates the contract and reads the value, currency, payment terms, dates and governing law out of the text where it can.
Also possible
From inside the document

In the document, open More actions → Promote, choose Signed document and click Create the contract. This route does not ask for a client.

Keep editing in Doc Hub
A contract promoted from Doc Hub is edited in Doc Hub: the contract editor shows Open in Doc Hub instead of an editable page. When you send it, Pacten takes the latest version of the document.

Frequently asked questions

Does promoting move the document?
No. It copies the text into a new contract. The Doc Hub document stays where it is and you can keep editing it.
What if I promote the same document twice?
Pacten opens the contract it already made instead of creating a second one.
Why is the Client column empty on my contract?
The client is set when you promote from Contracts → New contract and pick one under Attach to. Promoting from inside the document does not ask for a client.
