Setting your tax rates - Pacten Guides

A tax rate is a named percentage — VAT at 7.5%, zero-rated, exempt — that an invoice line can point at. Set them up once and they appear as choices wherever a line is priced.

You will find them under Finance → Settings → Tax rates.

WHY IT COMES FIRST
A rate is a name, not just a number
This is what makes the number auditable later.

Typing 7.5% onto a line gets the arithmetic right and tells you nothing afterwards. A NAMED rate means a report can say how much VAT you charged this quarter, and an exempt line can say it is exempt rather than looking like somebody forgot.

Zero and exempt are not the same thing
A zero-rated line is taxable at 0%; an exempt one is outside the tax entirely. They read identically on an invoice and differently on a return, so if your business has both, give them separate rates now rather than untangling it at filing.

Rates are workspace-wide, so adding one makes it available on every document straight away — invoices, credit notes and quotes alike.
