Time off and timesheets - Pacten Guides
Two related things on one screen, under People → Time & Leave. Leave is time away from work; timesheets are what the working time was spent on.
REQUESTING LEAVE
Asking to be off
Short, and it goes to somebody.
1
Request time off
Choose the leave type, the start and end dates, and add a note if the type or the timing needs explaining.
2
It goes for approval
Where it goes is decided by your workspace — for a department, that is normally its head. Nothing is automatically granted.
3
You are told
Approved or declined, and the request stays on your record either way.
Tip
Leave types are your workspace’s own — annual, sick, unpaid, study, whatever you actually operate. Getting them right matters more than it looks, because they are what payroll and any statutory reporting read.
TIMESHEETS
What the time went on
For businesses that need to know.
The same screen carries timesheets, where hours are logged against the project or work they belong to. An entry can be marked billable, which is what separates time you can invoice from time you cannot.
Entries can be logged quickly one at a time, and the week’s total is shown as you go, so an incomplete week is visible before it is a problem rather than at the end of the month.
Watch out
Billable is not the same as billed. Marking time billable makes it available to invoice — it does not raise anything. Somebody still has to put it on an invoice, and time that is never invoiced is the most common quiet revenue leak in a services business.
FOR MANAGERS
The other side
Approving, and seeing the whole team.
Anyone responsible for other people’s time gets an administrative view of the same screen: requests waiting on them, and the team’s time in one place rather than one person at a time.
When people are due to work
Building the schedule the leave is measured against.
