Where stock is kept - Pacten Guides
A location is simply a place stock can be. If you need to know how much is there rather than how much you own in total, it is a location.
WHAT COUNTS AS ONE
Anywhere you would count stock
It does not have to be a building you own.
- A warehouse or a bonded shed.
- A depot in another city.
- The room behind the shop, if you track it separately.
- A van, if stock genuinely lives on it between jobs.
You will find them under Supply → Settings → Reference data.
WHY IT COMES UP EARLY
Receiving asks where it went
This blocks sooner than most people expect.
Booking a delivery in asks which location it arrived at, so receiving cannot be completed until at least one exists — and a workspace with none tends to find that out with a container already on the ground.
One is enough to start
If everything you hold is in one place, make one location and move on. Splitting into several only earns its keep when you genuinely move stock between them, or need to answer “how much is in Kano” without going to look.
Locations are also what transfers move stock between, and what a stock count is taken at. Both read the list you set up here, so anything added later is available everywhere immediately.
