Your journey: the programme blueprint — Pacten Guides

Your workspace may call a group a Cohort, a Class, or a Trip — same features, your sector's words.

Where: open the service your programme runs on, press Configure, and choose the Journey tab.

What the journey contains

The journey canvas shows your programme as a sequence of stages. Each stage seeds tasks for the people who reach it — click a stage to edit its task templates: title, instructions, whether participants see it on their hub, whether it needs a file submitted, its due-date rule, and whether it's required to continue.

The same tab also holds the welcome message (sent the moment you take a participant on) and, for group programmes, the graduation criterion and certificate message.

Starting from the standard journey? Many services begin on Pacten's standard stages. The Journey tab will say "Using the standard stages" — press "Customise these stages" to take your own editable copy. Anything already running is untouched when you do.

When a participant inherits it

The copy is made per participant, at the moment they are taken on — not when the group is created. A brand-new group with nobody added yet shows no milestones; take on the first participant and the journey's milestones appear on their copy automatically.

Because the copy happens at take-on, two participants taken on weeks apart hold the journey as it stood on their own start date. If the journey improved in between, the group's Materials tab will offer to bring everyone up to date — see Updating a live group safely.

Editing the blueprint

Everything you change on the Journey tab applies to participants taken on from that point forward. The editor reminds you as you work: "This is the journey template — changes apply to every future group of this service, not just one." Removing a stage or task never strips it from people who already have it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set the tasks every student has to complete?
On the service your programme runs on: press Configure and open the Journey tab. Click a stage to edit its task templates — title, instructions, whether students see it, whether a file must be submitted, its due-date rule, and whether it is required to continue.
How do I apply a journey template to a cohort?
You do not apply it by hand. Every student receives their own copy of the service's journey at the moment they are taken on, so a new cohort shows milestones as soon as its first student is added.
Where do I set the welcome message and the graduation criteria?
Both live on the service's Journey tab, next to the stages: the welcome message goes out the moment a student is taken on; the graduation criterion and certificate message apply to group programmes.
We are on Pacten's standard stages. How do I make them our own?
On the Journey tab press Customise these stages to take an editable copy. Cohorts already running are untouched.
