Softphone or your own phone — Pacten Guides
Pacten can connect you to a call in two ways. You pick one as your default, and you can still choose differently on any single call.
THE CHOICE
The two ways
One needs a browser and a headset; the other needs your mobile to be reachable.
- Softphone (this browser) — you talk through your headset, in the browser. Click to dial; no second phone rings. Needs Pacten open in a tab and a working microphone.
- Ring my phone — Pacten rings your own mobile first, then connects you to the other person. Works away from your desk, and your own number still stays private to them.
Tip
If your mobile signal is unreliable, choose Softphone. A “Ring my phone” call that never reaches your handset just fails quietly — nothing on screen tells you the enquiry was lost.
SETUP
Setting your default
About a minute, and it is per workspace.

Open Account Settings
Click your initial, top right, then Account Settings.

Choose Calling
From the list on the left. You will see “How Pacten calls connect you”.

Pick your mode
Softphone (this browser), or Ring my phone with your mobile number in full international format.

Switch on inbound, if you want to be rung
Receive incoming calls is a separate option, off by default. Choosing a mode does not switch it on.

Save changes
A confirmation appears once it has saved.
Watch out
The page is called Account Settings, but the calling choice is saved for you in THIS workspace only. If you work across more than one, set it in each — the panel says so on the page itself.
OUTBOUND
Calling someone out
Anywhere you can see a number, the call button offers the same three choices.
- Call with Pacten — recorded, transcribed, auto-logged, and your number stays private. Uses your default above.
- Call from my phone — your own device and number, not recorded. A deliberate choice, not a fallback: nothing about that call is captured.
- Text message — opens your messaging app.
Use Call with Pacten unless you have a reason not to. It is the only option that leaves a record anyone else can pick up.
